Pool Shock

Shocking isn't "more chlorine" — it's rapidly oxidizing the organics that normal chlorination can't keep up with. Using the wrong shock makes things worse: cal-hypo raises calcium in already-hard DFW water, dichlor raises stabilizer if you're already high. We stock all three families — cal-hypo for algae kills, dichlor for low-CYA pools, and non-chlorine oxidizer for weekly maintenance — so you can match the shock to your actual water chemistry, not just grab whatever's on the shelf. Green pool emergency? Call us; drivers can sometimes be out within two hours.

Pool Shock questions

How long after shocking can I swim?
Cal-hypo and dichlor: 24 hours, or until free chlorine drops below 5 ppm. Non-chlorine shock: about 15 minutes. Never swim above 5 ppm free chlorine.
How much shock does a green pool need?
Light green: double dose (2 lb cal-hypo per 10,000 gal) at dusk, brush, run the pump 24 hours. Dark green: triple dose plus algaecide and phosphate remover, expect 3-5 days. Or book our Green-to-Clean service and we handle it end-to-end.
