Clean it when the pressure gauge reads 8–10 psi above its clean reading — the rule in the filter makers’ manuals. In Corinth, plan on a cartridge clean every 3–4 months in summer on well water, every 4–6 months on the city supply. Sand and DE filters are backwashed at the same rise and taken apart when a backwash stops bringing the pressure down.
We price a filter clean at the visit: it is the on-site time for your filter type plus only the parts it needs, such as a tank o-ring, filter cleaner or a DE recharge. A new cartridge, grid or sand is quoted only when the old one is done.

Yes: turn the pump off and open the air relief so the tank is not under pressure, then pull the cartridge and hose it from the top down, pleat by pleat — never with a pressure washer, which tears the fabric. Soak it in filter cleaner if it is greasy or crusted, and lube the tank o-ring before you close it. Book us if the pleats are torn, the end caps are loose, or the pressure stays high after a clean.
On site, a cartridge clean takes about an hour, a DE clean and recharge about 1¼ hours, and a sand filter service about 45 minutes. That is the whole visit: shut down, clean, check for damage, reassemble and record the new clean pressure.
