Product Overview

A proven choice for penetrating stubborn black algae colonies and persistent bloom cycles.

Formulated specifically to eradicate entrenched growth, Regal Super Black Algaecide utilizes a chelated copper complex (7.41% Copper Triethanolamine Complex) in a 1 QUART bottle to cut through the waxy protective layer of black algae. Unlike standard quat treatments that foam or break down quickly under direct sunlight, this chelated formula stays suspended in solution to continuously sanitize plaster, pebble, and tile lines without disrupting your water balance.

Why Pool Pros Trust This

Benefits & What Makes It Different

Chelated Copper Chemistry

Penetrates deep into the cellular matrix of black and mustard algae without causing water cloudiness or rapid drop-out.

Non-Foaming Formulation

Safe for use in high-aeration systems including swimming pools with attached spas, swim jets, and water features.

Zero Effect on Water Balance

Will not elevate cyanuric acid, alter total alkalinity (80–120 ppm), or skew calcium hardness (200–400 ppm) levels.

Product Details

Active Ingredient

Copper Triethanolamine Complex 7.41% (Elemental Copper equivalent 0.74%)

Recommended Dosing

Initial/Severe: 12–24 fl oz per 10,000 gallons; Maintenance: 2–4 fl oz per 10,000 gallons every 14 days

Compatibility

  • Compatible with chlorine, bromine, salt chlorine generators, and mineral systems
  • Do not dose simultaneously with non-chelated metal sequestering agents as they may deactivate the algaecide
  • Maintain pH between 7.2–7.6 to prevent metal precipitation

When To Use This

Eradicating embedded black algae colonies on plaster and pebble finishesTreating recurring mustard or yellow algae bloom flare-upsSupplemental bi-weekly preventative maintenance during peak summer heat

Pro Tip

Black algae forms a protective waxy crust that chemical treatments cannot easily penetrate on their own. Always brush the spots aggressively with a stainless steel wire brush (on plaster) or stiff nylon brush (on vinyl/fiberglass) immediately before pouring this treatment directly over the colonies with the pump running.

Common Questions & Instructions

How much Regal Super Black Algaecide should I add for severe black algae?

For severe black algae infestations, apply 12 to 24 fluid ounces per 10,000 gallons of pool water directly around the affected areas after thoroughly wire-brushing the algae heads. For routine prevention, use 2 to 4 fluid ounces per 10,000 gallons every two weeks.

Will this copper-based algaecide stain pool plaster or vinyl liners?

Because the copper is chelated with triethanolamine, it remains sequestered in solution and will not cause staining when your pH is maintained within the ideal 7.2–7.6 range and total alkalinity sits between 80–120 ppm.

How soon after adding Regal Super Black Algaecide can swimmers enter the pool?

Allow the pool filter to run and circulate the water for at least 15 to 30 minutes after application. Ensure free chlorine is within the standard 1–3 ppm range before swimming resumes.
